NIKE Strobe Specs

These very cool looking glasses are actually a brilliant sensory training tool.  We use them to improve visualization, processing speed and neurological stimulation of the "where is it" system.  They are called the NIKE Strobe Specs and they mimic a strobe light setting, cutting out your vision at a specific frequency to encourage you to "anticipate" where the ball is going to be.

They are used in many sports for athletes to improve reaction time and eye hand coordination.  They are also used in Optometric Vision Therapy to do the same.

Keep you eye on the ball!! Read more > about NIKE Strobe Specs

Post-Concussion Vision Therapy

This YouTube video is very short and sweet about a woman and her experience with vision therapy after she suffered a concussion.  The video was made by a colleague of ours in New Jersey, Len Press, OD.  Please enjoy.

Translucent Patches

Why do we use "see through" patches in vision therapy?

1. They allow the observer or therapist to see what the covered eye is doing.

2. They allow light to get into the covered eye so that peripheral vision is stimulated. Read more > about Translucent Patches

Visual Perception

Who says VT is all about fun and games?   Well, it's not ALL about fun and games but . . . sometimes we are forced to play games.  We admit - it's hard work, it's medically necessary and we give people a lot of very obvious new skills but one area that we are very proud of is our visual perceptual skills training.  Here is some information about visual perception and why it is so important. Children Learn What They Live By

Dorothy Law Nolte, Ph.D.

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.

If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.

If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.

If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.

If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.

If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy. Read more > about CHILDREN LEARN WHAT THEY LIVE BY

GOALS OF VISION THERAPY

We have had lots of questions about what vision therapy is and how ours is different. There is so much to say about VT and why we do it, also so many reasons why it is so special at Elemental. In a nutshell, our program is goal based and in addition to the individual goals of the patient, we also aspire to achieve all of the following in our program. The reason for this is to give a child the tools necessary for success. You use almost 90% of your brain in the process of vision, that's why it affects so much of what we do. Here are our goals of vision therapy: Read more > about GOALS OF VISION THERAPY

GOING PAPERLESS:

Now that the office opening buzz has calmed down and we are able to get into the groove of every day activities, we are really enjoying the paperless environment. Not that being paperless is anything new, but we are excited to say that we have a few technologies that we want to brag about.

WOW!!! What a fun, exhausting, and exhilerating few weeks we've had at Elemental Eyecare! Getting moved in and set up gave me a new appreciation for the crew working on our building, and also for what a bunch of women can get done when they put their minds to it. Monday, June 16, 2008

Well, it has been a crazy few weeks. We got our temporary certificate of occupancy on June 3rd, around 3:30 in the afternoon and then the craziness began. We moved in and saw our first patient on the 5th, at 4 pm. Here are a few of the pictures taken during the process.

Since we couldn't move in the weekend of the 1st, we decided to paint. This is the block in the infant exam room. Erin painted the cutest little elephant on the top. We've decided that this will have a theme of the circus. Lots of elephants to come. Read more > about Monday, June 16, 2008
